Scones

Ingredients

3 cups all purpose flour

1/3 cup sugar

2.5 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

3/4 tsp salt

6 oz unsalted butter cut small

1 cup buttermilk

1 Tbs grated citrus peel

4 Tbs dried fruit - optional


2 oz unsalted butter melted

1/4 cup sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 425F

In a medium bowl or food procesor stir flour, sugar, powder, & soda together. Add the cold butter pieces and process until it resembles coarse cornmeal. Add fruit if desired. Add buttermilk and zest and mix until just moistened - dough will have a rough look. Add more buttermilk if it looks too dry.

Turn onto floured surface and knead briefly. Cut the dough in half. Roll into a 6 to 7 inch circle and cut into triangles. Place on un-greased cookie sheet about 2" apart.
Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.

Bake 10 to 12 minutes until golden.
